Supporting local needs
The Glenridding scheme is central to enabling new social housing that cannot proceed without an upgraded wastewater system. The project’s acceleration, brought forward by four years, reflects the importance of supporting community infrastructure such as the local school, which is experiencing low enrolment and needs to attract more families to remain viable.
Environmental benefits
The project is designed to protect and enhance the local environment. It reduces the risk of untreated or poorly treated wastewater entering sensitive watercourses. It also supports habitat led improvements that work with natural systems. Together, these measures improve long term water quality and the health of the wider catchment. Balancing community growth with environmental protection is central to the programme’s wider purpose.
