Emerging technologies, AI, and the increasing threat of cyber attacks from hostile actors around the world are just a few examples of the trends which are disrupting the sector. Our clients are working hard to attract, upskill and retain a diverse workforce to help meet these challenges, while procurement models are evolving along with other key processes in line with the latest UK Government priorities including the ‘Construction Playbook’.
All this change is happening within highly protected and secure environments. This calls for a creative response from WSP to practical problems, presenting my team with the type of complex challenge we relish.
Relationships and our reputation are very important when it comes working successfully within the defence sector. Over the last 15 years WSP has worked in close partnership with main contractors and suppliers to the defence industry across the UK and abroad. We are constantly looking to how we can leverage added value for our clients, in the way we respond to our project briefs, whilst meeting defence and security specific standards and protocols
Being familiar with defence standards is essential for us to function as trusted advisors and effective project delivery partners. Being conversant with these standards means we’re able to translate our designs and advice into our client’s language and gain the approvals from the technical teams employed by the defence client.
WSP are well placed to bring best practice from across a diverse range of public and commercial sectors including initiatives such as ‘Future Ready’ to help shape our responses to the specialist requirements of our defence sector clients.
It’s an approach that requires us to be constantly innovative and flexible. Whether we are working with a Design and Build Contractor to find the best solution to meet the ‘minimum military requirement’ or acting as the clients ‘Technical Advisor’ this pathfinding approach is a rigorous and absorbing process and makes the sector an interesting place to be.
WSP is able to contribute in a positive way as the UK defence sector looks to put itself in the best possible position to meet the challenges of the 21st century for the benefit of us all.
