This project was supported by Lexica prior to its acquisition by WSP.
Located at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, the Extreme Photonics Applications Centre (EPAC) is designed to become a global hub for disruptive imaging technologies, advancing research across industrial, biological, defence and security sectors.
The £82 million facility will help researchers and the industry better understand the composition and behaviour of new materials under varied conditions. Completed in May 2022, the building now stands ready for the installation of high-power laser systems, with full operation expected in 2026. EPAC sits alongside other major research bodies at Harwell, including the UK Atomic Energy Authority, Diamond Light Source and the Science and Technology Facilities Council's (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.
With significant experience in complex life sciences projects, Lexica, member of WSP, was appointed in 2018 to support the delivery of this groundbreaking facility. We provided expertise across project and cost management, as well as technical design and second-stage procurement support.
