Our health and safety professionals are highly competent in meeting the complex and changing needs of our clients. We focus on establishing health and safety direction and strategy, supporting leadership capability, assisting the development of highly effective management systems and delivering detailed technical compliance management programmes.
Strategy and direction
Our team understands the detailed legislative requirements of health and safety management. We believe that managing health and safety risk is just another part of doing business. Any strategy should support delivery of the business’ vision, whilst delivering a safe and healthy working environment. For organisations without an internal health and safety professional, we offer a ‘Health and Safety Competent Person’ service to navigate them through today’s complex regulation requirements and help them stay Future Ready.
Safety due diligence
We deliver detailed health and safety audit programmes against recognised standards. Our team also undertake assessments on behalf of banks, investors and financial institutions to assess the requirements of their current and potential investments. Particularly for international projects, and against investment guidelines such as the World Bank Safeguard Standards, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Management systems
We understand the detailed requirements of management systems (e.g. HSG 65, ISO 45001, Responsible Care™, ISRS©, etc.), providing holistic support; from the provision of tailored legal registers, development of procedures, training needs analysis, setting of goals and targets, through to designing user friendly visual interfaces.
We deliver detailed audit programmes at systems and procedural levels and in preparation for certification audits.
Health and safety training
To build on our clients’ internal expertise we offer bespoke training and advice on specialist topics such as Risk Assessment, Construction Design Management, Safety in Design, Management Systems, Auditing Competence, Representatives of Employee Safety, Fire Marshalls, Safety Committees and Hazardous Materials Handling.
Accident incident investigation
Incident investigation provides warning that designs, and operations may not be achieving the intended health and safety outcomes. Good investigation goes beyond immediate and basic technical causes and examines management systems root causes and safety barrier failures.
We provide independent investigation using experts who are familiar with a wide range of working environments and cultures. Our approach combines both technical and management systems root cause analysis, with techniques such as Bowtie analysis when required. Our in-house chemical, electrical, mechanical, civil, security and fire engineers can be called upon to provide technical input where necessary. In addition, we provide training on investigation fundamentals, as well as root cause analysis techniques to improve the skill set of your internal investigation teams.
Human factors
Our approach focuses particularly on ensuring that design – the strongest control against “human error” – has taken adequate account of the need for human reliability on critical activities, and that the risk of human error can be demonstrated to have been reduced to a level that is ‘As Low As Reasonably Practical’. Our services cover both the design and layout of equipment as well as aspects of operation and organisational structures to ensure the effectiveness of both systems and, the well-being of personnel.
Construction safety and Construction Design and Management (CDM)
With the significant potential risks involved in construction work, stakeholders have high expectations for the management of health and safety on construction projects. Based on our extensive knowledge and experience in the industry, we offer a comprehensive and robust service for clients in order to ensure that the CDM processes are in place and effectively address health and safety issues - not only to meet legal requirements, but to add value to projects. Our ‘Client Adviser Service’ monitors, records and reports directly to our client, reassuring them that all parties are meeting the requirements.
Process safety
We help our clients identify and implement solutions to manage risk associated with their working environment, plant and equipment, processes and operations. Our experts provide support through the full project lifecycle; from planning advice when looking at potential locations, during the design phase we facilitate hazard identification studies, deliver scenario modelling, quantified risk assessments and prepare safety case and permit applications. Through to the operational phase; providing training, process safety management auditing and emergency planning support.
