Do you feel it? The seismic shift in global electricity demand?
Economies are electrifying. Concentrated loads from big users like electrified public transport, data centers and industrial manufacturing are adding to energy demand. At the same time, we are looking toward more decentralized and flexible generation.
We need to be ready for what the future holds.
That’s something we get at WSP. We strive to design and build structures and infrastructure that shape communities to advance humanity. This starts with power generation and transmission lines that fuel the demand from the other markets we serve—buildings, highways, bridges, subways, airports and other critical infrastructure. We feel the shift in the work we do.
For our industries, governments and communities, it’s more than a feeling. It’s an imperative.
They need our expertise in strengthening grids to secure networks. Expanding capacity to improve reliability. Electrifying transportation to reduce smog. Adding generation to power AI data centers.
The world is rapidly changing and so are we. We made moves to adapt, align and evolve.
Today, we can help our clients put in place the right energy infrastructure. Solutions that meet rising capacity demand and are Future Ready®—adaptable for emerging technologies and regulatory shifts.
We can provide:
- Large-scale program management for faster, consistent project delivery for utilities.
- Innovative approaches that allow for the execution of 765 kV or other complex projects.
- Digital tools and platforms that help clients make smarter decisions and improve affordability.
- Deep interconnection expertise to deliver new power generation and storage projects efficiently.
- Lower carbon solutions to diversify the energy mix with carbon capture, hydrogen, nuclear, or electrification strategies.
Our vision is to continue leading the Power and Energy (P&E) sector. It’s a journey that starts with why we love this work so much.
Energizing WSP
We’ve been helping clients and communities since 1959. And we’ve achieved global leadership positions in buildings, transportation1, environmental2, and power3.
Our people are driven by a desire to make a positive impact on the world.
And underpinning it all is energy. Delivering more efficient, more affordable, and more reliable energy allows for a better quality of life and fuels economic growth.
An early P&E milestone was our 2014 acquisition of Parsons Brinckerhoff, a firm with international expertise in power engineering. Over the next decade, we grew this business into a global team of approximately 2,500 with industry-leading expertise in program management and renewables.
Meanwhile, the energy transition was evolving at a rapid pace. We saw opportunities to rethink how we are powering this critical infrastructure. It was clear that a more ambitious growth strategy in P&E would benefit everyone—clients, communities and our people.
In 2022, we set out a strategy to become the leader in Power & Energy.
Building a Powerhouse
WSP has a long history of integrating and augmenting strong engineering brands. We’re proud of the connections with these firms and the amazing talent they bring.
A great example is our June 2024 acquisition of 1A Ingenieros. The Spain-based, 250-person consulting firm strengthens our P&E offerings in Spain and supports our broader Continental Europe growth ambitions.
In October 2024, we completed a milestone acquisition of POWER Engineers. With a 4,000-strong team of multidiscipline experts, POWER Engineers brings both scale and technical excellence in power generation, transmission, substations and distribution engineering.
In 2025, we added Ricardo, a UK‑headquartered firm operating in over 20 countries. Ricardo delivers solutions that intersect the transport, energy and environment agendas.
Adding to the picture, this February, we welcomed TRC Companies (TRC) to WSP. In addition to complementary engineering capabilities, TRC also brings strong advisory, planning, and program management capabilities across the full infrastructure lifecycle.
Together, we are creating an integrated platform with industry-leading capabilities that span the entire P&E value chain. This enables us to serve major public and private utilities across North America and globally with our expertise in power generation, transmission, substation design, and distribution.
This combination—proven execution and strategic strengths—positions WSP as the #1 P&E provider in the U.S.4 with approximately 7,000 professionals, and the leading global consulting firm in P&E with a staff of approximately 10,500 worldwide.
Advancing Energy Security
While energy transition remains critical, shifting global dynamics have made energy security a top priority. Our integrated teams have hit the ground running, helping clients address grid resilience, the growing demand for power, and the advancement of low carbon solutions.
Boosting Grid Resilience
Grid resiliency is critical to reliable power delivery and long-term system performance. Our planning and engineering solutions for grid modernization and new transmission are contributing to support reliability and reduce risk, preparing infrastructure to work for years to come.
Our Move: We are solidifying ourselves as a major global Transmission & Distribution provider, capitalizing on our industry-leading Program Management and Digital capabilities.

Low-Carbon Solutions
As policies shift, many international climate commitments still stand. To reduce risk, developers are future-proofing their investments to be ready for carbon capture and alternative lower carbon fuels. Renewed interest in small modular (nuclear) reactors is also very high.
Our Move: For gas-fired power plants, we’re providing end-to-end carbon capture services. With our environmental experience in nuclear site selection and permitting, we are positioned well as a global nuclear energy service provider5.

The Right Time
We’re really excited about what’s next in our journey.
The power and energy market sector doesn’t stand alone. It also sits at the nexus of the work we do in buildings, transportation, and environmental. Integrating our P&E capabilities allows us to strengthen our services and offer broader end-to-end project lifecycle services.
That means we can help you plan, design and manage your most complex and challenging P&E projects worldwide. And those are the projects our people love. Pathfinders and forward thinkers who can envision new possibilities and have the technical know-how to make them a reality.
Visioneers who feel the shift and can supercharge tomorrow.
We’re WSP. And we’re shaping an energy secure future, together.
