Transport planning is about understanding the connections between transport modes and the future shape of our towns and cities. It’s also about changing people's attitudes towards travel, decreasing risks of accidents, encouraging alternative modes of transportation, and getting more out of available resources.
WSP's transport planners work with central and local government agencies, private developers, research agencies, and transportation authorities and providers to come up with smart transport planning solutions.

Our position as a thought leader in the transport field is supported by years of challenging project work on significant projects that have shaped our cities and communities. Robust research underpins our work – our research team are world leaders in transport engineering, environmental science, geography and behavioural science.
We work in multi-disciplinary teams to address challenges as diverse as integrated transport, community resilience and future transport needs and aspirations. We can draw on behavioural physiologists, economics and research expertise to forecast transport outcomes after events such as the Christchurch earthquakes, major road bypass and public transport projects.
We have about 100 transport planning professionals spread throughout NZ with specialist teams based in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch.
