Straddling a plate boundary, Aotearoa’s location in the South Pacific gives rise to a range of damaging natural hazards. From earthquakes and volcanos to tsunami, high rainfall and frequent landslides, the landscape of our motu is alive and active.
Combining applied research and practice, our risk and resilience team specialises in the assessment, management and remediation of the impacts of natural hazard events and their impacts on our built environment.
Our specialist areas include:
• Natural hazard assessment and mapping – landslides, liquefaction etc.
• Climate change and sea level rise impacts and adaptation.
• Land use planning for natural hazards.
• Resilience assessment, prioritisation, enhancement and business cases.
• Infrastructure and building assessment, adaptation and strengthening.
• Monitoring, management and mitigation of risk from natural hazards to our infrastructure networks.
• Post-earthquake and storm event response, assessment and remediation.
