Hope Bypass is a key long‑term infrastructure project for the Upper South Island. It’s set to support regional growth by providing additional capacity on State Highway 6 and improving the reliability of journeys between Port Nelson and surrounding communities.
WSP and Stantec will provide professional services and technical expertise to support the project’s detailed design phase and statutory approvals.
The design contract brings together two infrastructure consultancies with strong experience in complex transport projects. Together, WSP and Stantec will deliver an integrated, multidisciplinary design approach.
WSP Director of Regions Chris Davies says the Hope Bypass project represents an important opportunity to apply WSP's transport and infrastructure capability to a nationally significant corridor.
“This will be a critical piece of regional infrastructure. Our role is to ensure that the detailed design is robust, future‑focused and responsive to the needs of road users, communities, and the environment.
“WSP brings deep expertise in transport planning, road design, geotechnical engineering and environmental assessment. We look forward to working closely with NZTA, Stantec and local stakeholders to deliver a high‑quality design that supports safer and more reliable journeys.”
Stantec Regional Director for Transport Wayne Juno says the company is proud to contribute its technical capability and experience to the Hope Bypass.
“We’re excited to be part of the team delivering this major project for NZTA and the Tasman region. At its heart, our work is about better connecting communities - and this project does exactly that.
“Our integrated offering with WSP builds on previous work together, and we look forward to delivering an affordable, modern, reliable link which enables both the local area and broader region to thrive.”
