The client's vision was to establish a centre for academic excellence on a 76-hectare green field site, integrating the natural and built campus environments. Initial work was for the site planning and design of a temporary campus to be used until the main campus was built.
In conjunction with work on the temporary campus, WSP produced a comprehensive development plan for the permanent campus and subsequently designed all of the buildings on the new campus.
This was the first building on the Massey University Albany campus to target a highly responsible environmental outcome, with the facility designed to meet a 5-star equivalent rating under the NZ Green Star rating tool. Sustainable strategies include rainwater collection and reuse, a high-tech energy efficient HVAC system, occupancy sensors for lighting and heating, and the selection of environmentally preferable materials.
