Project purpose and scope

As part of Renwick’s broader water infrastructure upgrade, WSP was engaged to design and deliver a new water treatment plant (WTP). The WTP was designed to meet the Drinking Water Standards for New Zealand (DWSNZ), with integrated pH correction and chlorine dosing for residual maintenance.

This project formed a key component of a multi-year programme that included a new reservoir (2020).

Collaborative delivery and technical excellence

WSP worked alongside Marlborough District Council and construction partners Simcox Construction and CMT Group to deliver the project. Simcox led the civil and structural works, while CMT Group managed the building works. Mason Engineers completed the mechanical and process equipment fit-out, followed by electrical integration and commissioning.

Throughout the project, WSP maintained strong relationships with all stakeholders.

The Renwick community now benefits from a modern, reliable water treatment system that delivers filtered, clearer, and better-tasting water. Previously, the town’s supply was not passed through a filtration system, making this upgrade a significant improvement in public health and quality of life.

The infrastructure is designed for a lifespan of over 100 years, ensuring long-term resilience and value for the community. WSP’s commitment to safety and minimal disruption helped foster positive relationships with residents and stakeholders throughout the project.
