Tapuaeharuru marae ātea Pou
At the heart of the Taupō Town Centre Transformation (TTCT) initiative is WSP's innovative engineering role, ensuring the stability of the iconic carved pou at Tapuaeharuru Marae Ātea. Achieving structural integrity, our solution was to use unconventional epoxy solutions to attach pou to concrete, preserving the artistic vision.
Completed in April 2023, the largest pou, carved from a 70-year-old tōtara log, stands 8 meters tall, weighing 6 tonnes. WSP's bespoke design ensures both client and artist satisfaction, enhancing the Taupō CBD's cultural centerpiece.
