Geotechnical Investigations

WSP provided geotechnical expertise, detailed design, and project oversight for the final stage of a multi-phase residential subdivision in Stoke, overcoming complex terrain, stormwater challenges, and pandemic disruptions to deliver on time and to Council standards.

The SH1 Brynderwyn Hills Recovery Widening Works project aims to improve road safety and traffic flow by widening the road, reinforcing slopes, and upgrading drainage systems. This initiative addresses current traffic demands and future growth, ensuring a safer and more reliable journey for motorists.

Through close collaboration between NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, WSP, local hapū, and contractors, extensive geotechnical investigations, design, and construction were carried out despite additional weather challenges and expanding slip numbers.

With closures caused by heavy rainfall and storm surges becoming increasingly common, the corridor’s vulnerability poses risks not only to transport but also to community wellbeing and economic stability

Kaikōura is situated on the eastern coast of the South Island in New Zealand (NZ). In November 2016, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the town. Ruptures occurred on multiple fault lines and Kaikōura’s road and rail links were severely impacted on, and in some areas completely destroyed.

WSP provided expertise across multiple disciplines towards the Waitohi Picton Ferry Precinct Development, a key infrastructure project driven by the need to accommodate two new large Interislander Ferries.

WSP office in Peru is supervising the earthmoving works for the construction of the new Chinchero international airport.

Z-Berth suffered damage during the Canterbury earthquakes, WSP investigated the conceptual remedial options to restore it to accommodate fishing vessels.

Temporary repairs were required at Cashin Quay 1 wharf, as a result of extensive damage from the 22 February 2011 earthquake. The project involved the construction of a ‘temporary’ piled steel superstructure to support a 200 tonne coal shiploader.

WSP provided design, modelling, analysis and technical services to the upgrade programme of existing and aged timber wharf structures at PrimePort.

The North Mole redecking project involves the removal of the existing aging timber deck and replacement with a new concrete deck to accommodate safe and effective operation of plant including harbour mobile cranes for container loading.

The Waimakariri District Council asked WSP to provide design and construction surveillance to fix the damaged roads caused by the Canterbury earthquakes.
