Photo Sales

WSP and Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) worked together from 2014 to 2023 to digitise the photo archive for long-term preservation and availability. During this time WSP managed the entire Archive. LINZ now manages this, therefore images previously provided by WSP Photo Sales are available from LINZ.

The Archive

Negatives in the Archive were originally held as two separate collections: surveys flown on behalf of the Crown and private surveys flown by New Zealand Aerial Mapping (NZAM). All materials in the Archive are under Crown copyright.

Access to the images

Abley’s Retrolens website provides an interactive search interface for viewing and downloading many of the photos in the Archive. Although these are at a lower resolution than the original scans, the downloads are suitable for most general purposes.

Full resolution scans, Survey charts, Calibration files and images not on the Retrolens website can be requested by emailing [email protected] with the subject line: “Historical Imagery”.
