Sustainable High-Rise Design

The building is intended to provide a shining example of green high-rise design and is aiming for LEED Platinum certification. Our designs for the mechanical and electrical services include such features as photovoltaic sun shades that generate in excess of 800,000 KWh per year in power. Green roofs will provide storm water management as well as reduce the heat island effect. The building materials will be selected for recycled and rapidly renewable features.

Interaction with New York Subway

A new MTA Subway Station entrance is incorporated into the base of the tower. The challenge for our structural engineers is to ensure the effective interaction between the structures of the MTA station and the tower building. This requires extensive and detailed coordination with the MTA to thread elements such as columns and shear walls through the station structure to provide the required support for the tower; and also to provide the structure for the subway entrance which descends from ground level and passes beneath the core of the tower.
