As part of strengthening our future ready approach to delivering successful major projects through technology, Michael Maslen, Technical Manager Major Projects, leads the rollout of digital tools on our major projects and programs.
With more than 25 years’ experience in the software and capital projects sectors, including co-founding InEight in Asia-Pacific, Michael brings a wealth of expertise to WSP’s clients. He takes them on the journey to transform their large capital projects and programs using innovative technology – to work more efficiently, communicate better and ensuring that expectations equal and exceed outcomes.
Michael says, “I’m passionate about bringing to life the enormous potential of how leading technologies like InEight can play a vital role in delivering complex infrastructure projects. Typically, technology investments represent a very low proportion of a business’ budget but when it’s integrated with all functions, there’s great opportunity to realise financial, risk, safety and productivity benefits.”
“We have been instrumental in leading organisations to make significant and positive change in the way they run their projects,” he says. “Our process knowledge and technologies we work with are a pillar to that success – as they all work hand-in-glove.”
“As an example, one project I was leading, had multiple joint venture partners all with different processes, technologies and maturity levels – where the project reporting cycles for cost and forecast had stretched to 15-20 days beyond month-end.
“After the introduction of a single project platform and common processes, we had all of the project JV partners operating in one user-based system, leading to improved forecast accuracy and a faster financial close. We summarised their manually-generated cost reports to an easy-to-understand set of PowerBI dashboards – providing immediate transparency that held up to analytical scrutiny by all stakeholders.”
WSP has solid Project & Program Management (PPM) experience working on some of the largest programs across Australia including Sydney Water’s P4S programme, Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade, Lower South Creek and many more.
Our PPM team couple this expertise with leading integrated project management technology using the InEight project management platform to deliver more efficiently, more predictably and leveraging learnings from best-practice projects.
Michael says, “There is enormous potential for us to play a vital role in delivering infrastructure smarter and more efficiently by taking advantage of a truly integrated project management technology platform that provides infrastructure owners and contractors the most advanced level of project certainty.”
