Maintaining and upgrading Tasmania’s existing water infrastructure is a major undertaking. With significant new infrastructure also needed, TasWater’s Capital Delivery Office Alliance manages its capital works program from start to end, including planning, design, procurement and delivery.
Richard Neale WSP’s Section Executive for Water in Victoria & Tasmania says, “WSP along with our delivery partners, TasWater, CPB Contractors and UGL form a team of dedicated specialists that serves as one entity, readily available and enabled to deliver what is needed.”
“The Capital Delivery Office Alliance bolsters the availability of consultants, contractors and specialists familiar with the projects to supplement local expertise with the capabilities and capacity of larger mainland companies.”
“TasWater has committed to delivering a $1.7 billion capital program until June 2025, which involves numerous upgrades of existing infrastructure and construction of new pipelines, pumping stations, treatment plants and water storages. These upgrades include Launceston Sewerage Improvement Program, Orford Pump Stations Upgrade, Regional Towns Stage 4 and Penna Reuse Scheme” Richard says.
WSP is engaged to support the alliance to deliver infrastructure planning, project development and management of capital works across TasWater’s asset network.
“Our team is embedded into TasWater, so we deeply understand the projects and requirements. This means that the alliance can draw on our skills, training and knowledge to deliver great results in an efficient manner.”
TasWater was formed in 2013 to take charge of the water and sewerage assets previously managed by 29 local councils, three bulk water authorities and several government agencies. They now manage more than 200,000 water connections, approximately 182,000 sewerage connections, 62 drinking water systems and almost 1000 water and sewage pump stations.
It’s infrastructure that makes a very real difference to the lives of all Tasmanians and helps maintain the state’s clean, green identity and enviable lifestyles. As a delivery partner, we’re proud to be building and maintaining such important infrastructure to improve liveability for Tasmanian communities through safe, sustainable and Future Ready™ water services.
