What do you enjoy the most about working at WSP?
WSP provides ample opportunities to get your hands dirty in a diverse range work, combined with a great working environment that encourages you to learn and be challenged every day. I’m currently a Graduate Consultant in the Acoustics Team, which provides building acoustics as well as noise control for the protection of our natural environment and health and safety for mining, maritime, industry, energy and infrastructure projects. Even though I’m relatively new to the business, I have been exposed to many different types of work across Australia. For instance, I have worked in the outback for an environmental project and frequently visits sites in and around Canberra. Recently, I was invited to attend a panel discussion event on electrification in both Australia and Sweden at the Australian National University (ANU). I was lucky enough to see the HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden inspecting an electric truck. I guess that is something to tick off my bucket list!

What is a hobby you do away from work?
Since working full time, I have been making an effort to rediscover my hobbies outside of work hours. At university I studied a double degree in Physics, Math, Philosophy, and Archaeology at ANU, and have a particular interest in ancient history. I enjoy watching movies and theatrical performances with friends and I really like acting. I have landed a few Shakespearean roles in my time – the latest being Antonio in ANU’s production of Twelfth Night.

What is your favourite thing about being in the Canberra office?
I think the size of the Canberra office in terms of people is very good. Given we are a relatively small team, there are lots of opportunities to learn from the best in the business. We are also very social - our ritual is the weekly quiz during lunch time, as well as morning coffee runs, and chats.
If you could meet one historical figure, who would it be and why?
Given I have an interest in ancient history, I would not choose a famous figure per se, but would like to talk to the average individual, maybe somewhere in ancient Rome at the time of Augustus. Preferable a freedman who managed to have their own profitable business. It would be interesting to hear their perspective, their attitude, and compare it to our own contemporary one.
What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Some advice that has resonated most with me is to always put your hand up and challenge yourself to try new things. We should always be learning and refining our skills, and I think the challenge that comes out of that leads to growth and becoming a well-rounded individual.
