Leading engineering, design and environmental consultancy WSP is helping future engineers solve tomorrow’s problems with two innovative sponsorship packages. For the third consecutive year WSP has committed as lead sponsor of the New Zealand Planning Institute annual conference, building on more than a decade of support.
This commitment has enabled two different schemes to be established. The first is a two-year scholarship that provides resources for a university student to incorporate Māori and Pacific Island perspective in a way that better advances Planning for Māori.
Nick Aiken, WSP Market Leader Environment and Planning, says the scholarship offers resources on the role of Māori people in the New Zealand planning framework and the integration of Māori perspectives in resource management planning and decision-making.
The second initiative ensures the continued development of the Environmental Planning profession. For this year’s NZPI conference, WSP and NZPI teamed up to establish a concurrent mini-conference for young students interested in a career in an Environmental profession. As a result, nine students from Hawke’s Bay secondary schools attended.
Nick Aiken, WSP Market Leader Environment and Planning, says this involvement demonstrates the company’s determination to lead by example.
“Our ongoing involvement - not just with the NZPI, but with the conversations at large – focuses the need to support and deliver quality Environmental Planning and outcomes into the future,” says Aiken.
