The new Te Nīkau, Grey Hospital & Health Centre received its first patient in July 2020. The hospital is a multi-purpose facility, built on the existing site and the model of care that has been adopted, compresses over 20,000m2 of existing clinical services into 8,500m2 of modern and much more space efficient facilities. This is a complex hospital construction to IL4 level post-disaster requirements.
WSP was engaged to provide design and construction monitoring of Building Services Structural, Civil, and Geotechnical Engineering services. WSP partnered with Jacobs and CCM Architects.
The Ministry of Health wanted a new hospital for the people of Greymouth that could provide 24‐hour emergency services, critical care, acute and planned surgical services (three theatres), medical imaging, pathology, catering, paediatrics, and an Integrated Family Health Centre (IFHC).
