No corner of the globe is immune from the devastating consequences of climate change.

It’s clear that business as usual is not good enough. As the infinite cost of climate change reaches irreversible highs, now is the time for bold collective action.

Let’s be clear on the challenge...

At the 2015 UN climate change conference, 188 countries made a deal to limit the increase of the earth's temperature to 1.50_C, and work together for the sake of humanity's future.

The contract limits greenhouse gases released by human activity to the same levels that nature can absorb naturally, by 2050 (if not sooner). Significantly, rich countries must also help poorer nations by providing 'climate finance' so they can adapt and switch to renewable energy.

Biodiversity is the bond between all organisms on earth. Every animal, plant and mineral play a role that connects us all together. But we are destroying habitats faster than we are restoring them and using 25% more natural resources than nature can sustain.

We must all act today to save, protect and improve biodiversity. New policies and laws are being put in place to guide us, but communities need to comt together to create a sustainable world that benefits nature and humanity.

Ultimately, it’s about striking a balance between the carbon emissions going into the atmosphere and those being taken out.

So how do we reach this goal?

We need to set strong and actionable Net Zero targets with ambitious timeframes that aim to drive innovation and Future Ready thinking.

Our vision of Net Zero incorporates three areas of action…

CUTTING CARBON

How do we talk about a problem we can’t touch or see?

Cutting carbon is the act of reducing both operational carbon and embodied carbon. We need to achieve a balance between the carbon emissions going into the atmosphere and being taken out.

Becoming Net Zero challenges communities and businesses to acknowledge their carbon footprint and balance their emissions by isolating, reducing and offsetting carbon.

PROTECTING NATURE

What if we achieve Net Zero, but lose the nature and wildlife that make our places unique?

Many experts have been concerned over the last two years that a focus on achieving the very technical aspects of Net Zero has had dire consequences for nature and biodiversity.

As a firm that includes strong services in ecology, biodiversity, social wellbeing and green spaces we believe protecting nature is a vital part of the Net Zero puzzle.

A FAIR TRANSITION

How do we share the load of going Net Zero in a way that’s fair for all?

Reaching Net Zero may mean phasing out or transitioning industries. But at the same time, it is an opportunity to create a more equal and resilient economy with new jobs, sectors and investments.
