Geological Services

With clues both from the surface and deep within the earth, our geologists help make sense of the complexity presented in all aspects of the mining cycle.

Initiatives undertaken by companies to tap into known deposits or in unexplored or remote areas can be a daunting task.

Not only does the old adage “location, location, location” come into play, but also, deciphering if an area is viably profitable and favourable for mining development, especially in an economical, sustainable and socially acceptable manner, is another question.

Whether exploration takes place at an open-pit or underground mine, WSP’s geologists can help you make informed decisions at all stages of the mining cycle. From exploration to mine development and operation, our experts help you to manage risk using a range of prospecting and exploration methodologies, as well as state-of-the-art modelling and visualisation technologies. Taking clues from the surface, as well as from deep within the earth, geologists draw on experience to make sense of the complexity that presents itself in all aspects of the mining cycle.

WSP’s geological expertise includes structural mapping, logging and analysis, 3D geological modelling, geological and geotechnical site mapping, grade control, site evaluations, geoscientific data compilations, sampling, drilling planning and monitoring, statistical and geostatistical analyses, resource estimates and preparation of technical reports, among others. One of the critical pieces to a project is the continual filing of technical reports for mining and mineral resource projects, such as Canada’s National Instrument 43-101 (NI 43-01), Australia’s JORC and South Africa’s SAMREC technical reports (there are also other comparable reports in Europe and other countries). These structured reports provide investors with independently verified information on every conceivable aspect in order to aid the investment decision from geoscientific and engineering perspectives.

With WSP’s long history of signing off on sections of a technical report as “Qualified Persons”, our clients trust us for complete understanding of the regulatory and compliance environment of reporting issuers, as demonstrated by successful NI 43-101 Technical Report research and writing.

Recognised Qualified Persons or “Competent Persons” in several jurisdictions, our multilingual experts are specialised in precious metals, base metals, minor metals, and bulk commodities. WSP’s engineers and geoscientists are also Qualified Persons in ore resource/reserve calculation and geostatistical analysis in scoping studies and preliminary economic assessments. Our mining and mineral processing engineers complete the team, with specific skills needed to lead pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.

Our track record

Our geologists combine exploration expertise with innovations gained from operations around the world in order to work closely with clients and find solutions to unlock the potential of their projects. Our track record includes projects of varying sizes and complexities, including technical reporting for the Samapleu Nickel-Copper Project in Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa; a property assessment for iron potential for the Lac Drumlin Project in Quebec, Canada; and a due diligence review of an existing resource model that included geological interpretation, statistical and geostatistical review and block modeling services to support a pre-feasibility study for the Ming Mine Project, located in eastern Canada.
