The Port of Newcastle is partnering with Macquarie Group’s Green Investment Group and the Commonwealth Government’s Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to support the development of a hydrogen economy in the NSW Hunter region.
As Technical Advisor, WSP is recommending an optimal site within the Port, delivering a preliminary engineering design and providing environmental planning services to the project. We are drawing on the local expertise in our Newcastle office and leveraging the skills of our broader organisation nationally to provide a full suite of project management, engineering (process, electrical/grid connection, water, maritime/ports, and civil), geotechnical, contaminated land, cost estimating, environmental/planning, and safety and risk services to the project.
The first stage of the Green Hydrogen Hub Project will be underpinned by a 40-megawatt electrolyser with a view to increase that capacity to more than a gigawatt over time and will deliver green hydrogen and green ammonia for domestic and export use. Our client is already forming key partnerships within the Hunter Region representing key industries including agriculture, mobility, export and bunkering, energy generation and transport to support this offtake.
