Google’s headquarters in Sydney – Workplace 6 – covers three floors with approximately 10,000 m2 of space and a seating capacity of approximately 700 employees. The innovative fit-out needed to boost supplementary capacity, correct base building air conditioning shortfalls and power limits.
Our design needed to use these finite resources efficiently whilst providing supplementary systems that operated within the regional power infrastructure. Stepping outside of current power provisions would trigger substation upgrades and authority approvals with broader financial and program implications.
Flexibility and Value
Our team provided a range of services including:
- Lighting Design
- Environmentally Sustainable Design
The fit-out included a rich variety of themed spaces to support different ways people want to work. To determine the power requirements for Google’s expansion, we had to collate existing power use and the projected use by engineers, sales and admin teams and combine this with test fit stacking plans. We tested typical workstation set ups and monitored the overall floor loads over the period of a year. We also developed specific user group profiles. This data helped our client understand and reach agreements on future power provisions and determined the maximum number of engineers that the building could support.
Google’s Headquarter now boasts a healthy, safe, and fun place to inhabit beyond the traditional workday hours. This was the first office fit-out in Australia to achieve a 6 Star Green Star Office Interiors Rating.
