Our Power team has assisted TfNSW with a 10-year Corridor Planning rail power system study enabling a $1B investment to significantly increase capacity of Sydney’s train network. The investment plans to increase peak-hour capacity by as much as 80 percent on parts of the city’s transport network by 2024.
Patrick Lehane, Engineering Manager of Traction Power says, “Well done to Matt Ye, Omer Suliman and team in undertaking a Future Ready approach to reviewing the 10-year forecast of the power infrastructure including rail traction and creation of the 10-year Power Corridor Plan. With a key focus on innovation, our team explored various options to provide further savings, reduce risks and inform strategic asset investment and maintenance decisions.
“As Transport agencies undertake infrastructure renewal and upgrades of existing traction systems to support increased power demands of new timetables, there is focus on the development of energy efficient solutions through energy recovery and onboard/wayside energy storage, our team are helping clients navigate these complex challenges.”
Commenting on the project, Ken Sun, Rail Development Lead for TfNSW says, “This plan will help inform TfNSW’s decision making in rail power infrastructure and has provided a 10-year vision of the medium term demands of the rail power network.”
