We have been awarded the Westport Supply Chain Integrated Design (SCID) project in Western Australia (WA).
Westport is the WA State Government’s long-term program to investigate, plan and build a future port in Kwinana with integrated road and rail transport networks. A new container port for WA will ensure that trade can continue to move effectively for decades to come. It will also provide an opportunity to establish a modern freight network that can adapt to future growth and technologies over time.
Greg Kane, COO Australia, says, “Westport’s SCID project is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to an infrastructure initiative that will support economic growth, create local jobs, and improve liveability for surrounding communities. It will bring WA to the global forefront of sustainability, port and logistics supply-chain infrastructure, and efficient freight movement. Together with our partners, we are committed to collaborating with Westport and their stakeholders to achieve an integrated supply chain that will contribute to creating the most sustainable container terminal in the world.”
The SCID project is a core element of the Westport Program. It will build on previous work and provide clear advice about when and how to deliver the new Port in Kwinana and associated freight and logistics network upgrades, while removing existing system barriers through future comprehensive design and development.
Simon Blake, National Maritime Executive and WSP Project Director, says, “This is a tremendous opportunity to plan the port and road/rail freight network around sophisticated modelling of the whole supply chain. By incorporating global best practices in terms of new technology, sustainability and efficiency as well as embedding our Future ReadyTM principles, we can support the Westport Program realize its full potential to create significant benefits to the community and the State.”
Ensuring successful project outcomes
This complex multi-disciplinary project requires access to industry-leading expertise, tools and knowledge to support successful project outcomes.
WSP has put together a multidisciplinary team across Maritime, Major Projects, Advisory, Rail, Roads, Civil, Bridges, Geotechnical, Planning & Approvals and Stakeholder Engagement. We have also brought together a consortia of industry leaders with the required capability and experience to help Westport achieve an integrated supply chain with strong commercial outcomes for the state and private-sector operators.
As the lead respondent, WSP will be supported by Deloitte Access Economics, Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec, Solid Port Solutions, Advanced Consulting Services, Sprott Planning and Environment, BMT, HR Wallingford, WT Partnership and Agonis Group.
“WSP will consider and support a holistic sustainability approach to the whole project lifecycle,” adds Simon. “We will use our knowledge to enable the strongest possible sustainability performance through subsequent design, construction, and operational phases, transcending contractual and relationship barriers and ultimately maximising the asset’s sustainability performance. This means thinking beyond planning-phase targets and objectives.
Barry Moore, Client Director in WA, says, “Westport is a once in a lifetime project that will change the face of freight in this country and beyond. To be the lead consultant delivering the SCID component is an incredible achievement for WSP and our business in the West.”
