This project will produce low emissions hydrogen and ammonia from coal and use carbon capture and storage. WSP has been engaged to complete the Pre-feasibility Study (PFS) for the general engineering scope of work including coal preparation and coal handling, on-site mine infrastructure, off-site mine infrastructure, the major pipelines and the export port in Gladstone.
Subject to regulatory approval, the mine and hydrogen facility will be located near the Wandoan township*, approximately 350 km northwest of Brisbane.
Also subject to approval, the captured carbon dioxide will be transported via pipeline to the proposed permanent storage site located at CTSCo’s EPQ10 tenement.
Roger Hayim, Major Projects Executive, says, “The future markets for hydrogen and ammonia products are developing and evolving. It is anticipated the Surat Hydrogen products will help meet the anticipated future demands of global and domestic markets. The project unlocks the value of the natural resource which would have otherwise been a stranded asset.”
“As the mining industry continues to grow and contribute to the global energy transition, we are supporting clients like Glencore in its transition to a low emission and exploring hydrogen as a potential pathway to a net zero emission future.”
Our scope also encompasses preparation of the integrated process plant layouts and the balance of plant scope in the hydrogen facility. Deliverables include a PFS Report, capital and operating expenditures, project execution planning and delivery scheduling.
This engagement harnesses the capabilities of our Mining & Energy Infrastructure, Energy, Earth & Environment and Maritime teams.
