The National Carillon is a significant heritage landmark in Canberra, occupying a prominent location on Aspen Island in Lake Burley Griffin. WSP provided specialist design services for a recent upgrade of technical facilities in this heritage building, including the design of a new multi-functional sound system and colour-changing façade lighting.
The new façade lighting provides programmable colour-changing lighting to each of the three faces of the building. In addition to the day-to-day white lighting treatment, the National Capital Authority now has the ability to program coloured scenes to commemorate significant occasions. Using an intuitive graphical interface, colour scenes can be programmed and scheduled in advance, and the system can be commissioned to provide remote log-in for even simpler control.
