Inland Rail

Having played a key role in the development of the 1,700 km Inland Rail project, WSP in a joint venture with Mott McDonald, has provided detailed design and construction phase services on sections of the project over the past 10-years.

For Toowoomba, this generational project means the creation of 2,300 new jobs during the construction phase and once completed is set to provide a multi-billion dollar windfall for the Queensland economy. For local businesses, particularly in the mining and agriculture industry, it means increased connectivity to major hubs spanning Melbourne through to Brisbane.

The project will also connect with the newly opened Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

Toowoomba Second Range Crossing

Opened in 2019, the TSRC is a 41-km bypass highway that will assist in managing increased traffic volumes.

Set to facilitate an economic windfall of approximately AUD2.4 billion over a 30-year period, the project will divert freight out of the main CBD, therefore reducing travel times and noise pollution while at the same time improving the region’s road safety considerably. In addition, the project has also helped to create around 5,000 jobs for locals since its inception.

In a joint venture partnership with Aurecon, WSP provided tender, detailed design and construction design support services to Nexus Delivery on behalf of Nexus Infrastructure.

Grand Central Shopping Centre

WSP has been involved in ongoing redevelopments with Grand Central since its original expansion in 2007. Most recently, the redevelopment focused on expanding its fashion offering aiming to provide shoppers with an iconic retail and leisure destination for the Toowoomba and Darling Downs region, while also encapsulating the culture of the area.

The expansion, completed in August 2016, doubled the size of the shopping centre to approximately 44,000m², and also involved integrating the existing Grand Central Shopping Centre with Gardentown Shopping Centre, via a two-level retail link.
