Safety in Design (SiD)
WSP has been at the forefront of Safety in Design (SiD) best practice for over a decade, helping our clients deliver safe infrastructure across the world. We have extensive experience in implementing Safety in Design processes compliant with the Model WHS laws, the Model Code of Practice: Safe design of structures, and industry requirements such as TfNSW/RMS Technical Procedure ILC-MI-TP0-520 (ProjectPack 520).
The Model WHS Act places duties of care on clients, designers and constructors, to ensure every design is free from hazards So Far As As Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP) across its lifecycle. Our team implement a comprehensive and legally compliant Safety in Design process throughout asset lifecycles. We assist clients hazard identification and controls from the outset of design through delivery of:
-
Safety in Design Workshops: utilising expert facilitators, WSP can hold SiD workshops incorporating site visits (where required) at key project design milestones, to generate a Design Risk Register which focuses on significant and original hazards to eliminate safety and environmental hazards So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable. Utilising industry techniques such as CHAIR, SWIFT, HAZOP and HAZID, we customise the in-person or virtual workshops to meet your needs.
-
Safety in Design system design: WSP can help create a legally compliant and best practice SiD process to enhance your internal design management process aligned with industry-specific requirements and legal obligations.
-
Safety in Design Support: WSP can offer SiD support resources to your design team to educate your design team, manage the design risk register and ensure this living document influences the design and protects the persons interacting with your asset. Additionally, the design risk register is in a format that can be transferred and communicated to other duty holders.
-
Safety in Design Independent Verification: WSP can ensure that your SID process is legally compliant, aligned with the requirements of the WHS legislation, the Code of Practice and any additional client or industry requirements.
