This new facility replaced the existing clinic located on the neighbouring site, which had reached its capacity. MacMurray Clinic specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases and endoscopy services, and the new facility was to feature sensitivity in its design and decoration to create a peaceful and calm environment for its end users.
WSP was engaged at concept design to provide building services through to project handover and defects liability to a CM3 level. The WSP team engaged directly with the key stakeholders, user groups and facilities and maintenance staff to produce building services concepts that met the functional brief. These needed to be understood by maintenance operatives and clinical staff alike. Engagement with all facets of staff members ensured that concerns and requirements were incorporated into the design and communicated back to them at key design milestones to ensure they were brought on the journey with WSP and the wider design team.
As part of WSP’s site efforts, significant time was spent instructing the installation process to maintenance personnel, including ensuring they were a part of commissioning processes, so that they weren’t ‘lumped’ with a new facility at practical completion. The project provided WSP with the opportunity to apply lessons learnt from previous healthcare projects. It included extensive liaison with stakeholders, led by WSP for services discussions, to bring them on the design journey - ensuring that the facility was fit for their purpose. The process also gave stakeholders the chance to understand early what they would be getting so they could provide comment and design input.
This project provides similar functions to that of a private health care facility such as consulting, radiology, and administration. Financial and programme performance was key to the success with value engineering challenging the normal.
