Catering for Community Growth Safely & Sustainably
Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has proposed an upgrade to Appin Road to reduce congestion, improve the safety, provide road connection for new homes and provide additional capacity for future land releases in the area.
The project is being delivered in two parts – an upgrade between Rosemeadow and Mt Gilead and safety improvements between Mt Gilead and Appin Village.
Appin Road Upgrade between Rosemeadow and Mt Gilead
The project is approximately 5.4km in length and involves:
- The upgrade of three existing intersections at Copperfield Drive and Kellerman Drive, Fitzgibbon Lane and Kellerman Drive
- Improvements to the intersection with St Johns Road
- Two new intersections to provide access to the new Figtree Hill development (former Mt Gilead development).
Lendlease Communities engaged us to provide concept design, review of environmental factors and detailed design professional services. The project is a collaboration between the NSW Government – Housing Association Fund (HAF), TfNSW and Lendlease Communities.
Appin Road Safety Improvements between Mt Gilead and Appin Village
This project involves the upgrade of 5.2km of roadway improving safety for residents, motorists and freight operators and unlocking housing. It will widen roadway to provide additional overtaking lanes, widen and modify shoulders and clearing to achieve improved clear zones.
In the five-year period between 2012 and 2016 there were 27 recorded crashes at Appin Road from Brian Road to Mount Gilead. These included one fatal, 14 injury crashes and 12 non-casualty crashes. These were predominantly run-off-road crashes with rear end, striking an animal and head-on accidents also accounting for crashes in the area.
The project has been funded by the Australian Government and is being delivered by TfNSW, who engaged us to provide detailed design for the project.
