Reinvigorating a historic clubhouse with a new hotel and residences

The first public art museum in Australia to achieve a 6-star Green Star design rating. WSP worked with Atelier Ten and the Art Gallery of New South Wales during the design phase to ensure ecologically sustainable design outcomes were achieved.

WSP were involved in the early design of the documentation of the Greenland Tower up to 2015 which entailed rigorous regulatory requirements and heritage challenges for Sydney’s tallest residential tower.

Located at the Styx River mouth, at a site of cultural significance to the local Maori community, this small and functional building with viewing platform was designed to reference the site’s history of voyage.

The new church was proposed to replace an existing damaged church on the same site, which was badly damaged in the Christchurch earthquakes, and provide a place of worship for over 200 parishioners. It was also proposed to work in with an existing Parish Centre on the site which was undamaged in the earthquakes and the Parish wished to retain.

WSP was called to project manage the seismic strengthening and heritage conservation of the Rotorua Museum, which was closed due to damage from the 7.8 magnitude Kaikoura earthquake in 2016.

Some of New Zealand’s most precious treasure lies in the remains of the people who first made this country their home. WSP helps identify, protect and preserve these precious sites, which is vital to understanding and learning from our cultural heritage while connecting all New Zealanders to each other and to their past.

As a key heritage building in the heart of Wellington, it was important to preserve the character of this historical gem while improving the safety of it.

Created in collaboration with Ministry of Culture and Heritage, Peter Jackson and WingNut Films the Great War Exhibition is located on the ground level of the former Dominion Museum and National Art Gallery on Buckle Street in Wellington.

The Dunedin Town Hall redevelopment was a project of substantial civic importance, which included the complete upgrade of the historical Municipal Chambers, Dunedin Centre, and the Dunedin Town Hall.

Careful consideration of the 1937 heritage listed building was a defining principle for this project not only for our client but also a strong prerequisite for Heritage New Zealand and Dunedin city.

WSP designed this beautiful streetscape on the heart of Carterton, connecting Holloway Street and State Highway 2 with the Carterton Library and Events Centre. The new civic centre prioritises the safety of pedestrians and allows the residents of Carterton to enjoy their town centre safely.
