One Parramatta Square (1PSQ) was the first development in a six-stage masterplan to revitalise the Parramatta CBD. This urban renewal is part of the New South Wales Government’s AU$10 billion infrastructure investment in Western Sydney.
IPSQ involved the construction of a new multi-storey commercial building at 169 Macquarie Street, Parramatta. The development was designed and built to achieve a 5 Star Green Star Rating. It consists of 14 storeys of office space and two split basement levels, which include plant, loading dock and car parking. There is also a ground floor retail space and lobby area.
Originally intended as Grade A office space, 1PSQ was transformed into a university campus, and Western Sydney University became the main building tenant. This added new requirements to the building design and fit-out to create first-class educational facilities for up to 10,000 students.
Building Services for a Smart, Energy-Efficient Development
Charter Hall and John Holland engaged our team to provide mechanical, electrical and HVAC services, fire engineering and protection and sustainability advice. Our aim was to meet requirements for commercial office space and educational facilities and achieve high sustainability goals.
As well as this work, we provided advisory services (pre-feasibility and operator procurement) for the Central Energy Plant, which will serve the six stages of development at the precinct. This led the Parramatta City Council to procure a utility to operate the plant. We acted as Technical Advisor to the Council for this procurement process.
Supporting a Thriving Community
1PSQ received a 5 Star Green Star Education Design v1 Rating. It is an example of how we can design mixed use developments to create smart and engaging environments where communities thrive.
From our involvement with the first stage, we continued working on the transformation of office space to learning space for Western Sydney University. We are currently also part of the team working on the development of 6-8 Parramatta Square, which will become the largest commercial tower in Australia.
