Aurora Central Melbourne is Malaysian property developer UEM Sunrise’s maiden venture in Australia. Strategically positioned above Melbourne Central Station, the tower is located at 224-252 La Trobe Street and achieved a 95 per cent take-up of its residential units within two weeks of its global preview in 2014.
Set to become Melbourne’s tallest residential development, Aurora is a 92-storey skyscraper with retail spaces, commercial offices, hotel and serviced apartments, residential units and 350-space car park. Once complete, the project will also have direct underground connections to the rail network, the Melbourne Central Station and the CBD’s largest retail precinct.
Designing for Flexibility
We have designed and developed efficient structural solutions for this seductive, yet technologically-advanced building. Our innovations include:
- A lateral stability system consisting of a central core and perimeter mega-columns, coupled with reinforced concrete outrigger walls located at plant floor locations, permitting apartment floor flexibility
- A tower column layout coordinated with the podium car parking arrangement to avoid costly column transfers.
- Traditional pad footing foundations, in lieu of piles, which have been assessed for interaction with the below Melbourne Central underground train station.
Merging Cultures
Currently, under construction, this project is due to be completed in 2019. It promises to be a new metropolis merging Malay culture and Melbourne eccentricity.
