Delivered through a PPP with the Victorian State Government, Bendigo Health and consortium Exemplar Health (consisting of Capella Capital, Lendlease, Spotless and Siemens), the project was constructed on a tight site, which was constrained by existing hospital buildings that remained operational during construction, over the two main stages.

Our initial engagement involved the mechanical, electrical, hydraulics and fire protection services on the masterplan, feasibility study and enabling works for the provision of the new hospital, including a comprehensive review of the infrastructure serving the site.

The works included a new main high voltage switch (including HV metering), transformer, main switchboard and associated new low voltage submains connecting to the existing department databases, which were required to be reinstated.

The works also included the installation of a new gas supply for the future hospital. A temporary boiler house was also created to supply steam to the buildings that remained operational during the construction of the new facilities.

As part of the works a new energy strategy was formulated to encompass both the existing Acute and Barnard Street sites.

Bringing the significant development to life

In January 2017, Stage 1 of the project was delivered with completed construction of a new acute hospital, cancer centre, kitchens and central logistics for all Bendigo Health locations, and psychiatric unit. Stage 2 of the project involved the construction of a 1200 space multi-deck car park, conference centre, supermarket and commercial catering facilities.

Our structural and civil engineering teams worked closely with project architects, Silver Thomas Hanley and Bates Smart, in delivering both stages of the project.
