IPA Childcare Lighting Design

All aspects of the design for this project revolved around the theme of innovate. Our interior lighting design solution was developed to meet the physical requirements of the nominated childcare service provider, Gowrie NSW.

The concept was to create a magical, soft ambient atmosphere for the children using this childcare facility. An atmosphere which was also was innovative, interacted with the children’s developing sensory experience and create a sense of wonder.

In the centre of the main ‘outdoor play space’ our challenge was to evoke a feeling of being outdoors, with the lights in the ceiling re-creating the sensory feeling of clouds in the outdoor sky. The aim was to create an atmosphere where the children could thrive in an environment designed to aid their learning, evoke feelings of happiness, feelings of wonder and curiosity, and interaction with their surroundings.

Locally sourced lanterns were used for the re-creation of the magical and playful softness of clouds in the sky. The round shape and transparency of these lanterns created the magical effect we needed, and each lantern is fitted with a singular warm white LED globe.
