The Commerce Department awarded the rights to design, build
and manage the Parramatta Justice Precinct to Multiplex and its bid consortium,
including *WSP (as enstruct). The redevelopment of this key site included a new
children's court, trial court, attorney generals building, as well as the
redevelopment of the existing Parramatta Hospital (Jeffery House). The site
which fronts the Parramatta River covers an entire city block.
The project
provided a number of engineering challenges, including construction of a three
level basement below the ground water table, extensive utilisation of load
bearing precast concrete and structural upgrading of the hospital building.
This work was carried out in parallel with an extensive site archaeological
study and to a demanding programme.
