WSP Specialist Lighting collaborated with Hachem Architecture to build 294 hotel suites, as well as a state-of-the-art gym, high-rise pool, two bars, and three exciting restaurants.

With its rebellious Flinders Lane address, the W Melbourne derives its design cues from the streets of Australia's cultural centre.

The hotel's main narrative has been reflected in every facet of the guest experience, ensuring that its visitors enjoy a stay that’s one-of-a-kind.

Each guest room maintains the city's signature darkly lit, understated elegance, while materials, furnishings, and fixtures are durable and elegant.

WSP in Australia designed every element of the lighting to reference Melbourne's vibrant laneway culture.

Guest rooms are designed to spark curiosity and an emotional response by serving as a canvas for unorthodox ideas and artistic expression.

The lighting for W Melbourne required innovative thinking, from back-lit wardrobes that look remarkably like Melbourne's streetside kiosks to the 'wall peel' in the guest rooms which emanate the warm glow of in-direct light.

Curious bar's intimate atmosphere was created through innovative lighting solutions from WSP in Australia's team of illumination experts

The secret bar, Curious, is a dimly illuminated basement haunt that is located down the Market Street stairwell.

Visitors are enveloped in the room’s cocoon-like design, formed from timber beams in a parametric sequence. Linear LED strips mounted between the beams create a truly mesmerizing effect.

For an intimate bar atmosphere, light levels are designed to be kept quite low.

A stay at W Melbourne is an experience, meeting the expectations of an increasingly discerning audience not easily impressed. The need for intelligent, innovative, and sustainable lighting design was required to ensure the vision of this discerning client was met.
