Partnering with you to deliver world-class sporting and cultural events and venues

Through collaboration across WSP and strong partnerships with leading engineering firms, we bring robust resources and deep expertise to projects of every scale. From lighting and aquatic overlays to innovative construction methods and site upgrades, our team’s collaborative approach consistently delivers outstanding results for our clients, athletes, and the community.

Having worked on six Olympic Games, I’ve been fortunate to contribute to some incredible projects. From planning transport for multiple venues for Olympic Parks in Sydney, Athens and Beijing, to leading city operations for Games precincts in Salt Lake City and London, each experience has been unique and rewarding.

What experience does WSP have supporting Olympic and major global events?

WSP has played a central role in delivering major sporting and cultural events for four decades, beginning with the 1984 Los Angeles Games. Since then, WSP has supported Olympic and Paralympic bids, planning, testing, readiness and Games-time operations across multiple host cities, including significant contributions to the Sydney 2000 and London 2012 Games. WSP has also worked on Football and Rugby World Cups and the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

How does WSP help host cities optimise movement and transport during major events?

WSP integrates mobility data to influence travel behaviour and manage transport networks efficiently during peak event periods. This includes predictive people-movement modelling, real-time operational monitoring, and designing multimodal hubs that strengthen last-mile connectivity. WSP’s approach ensures resilient, inclusive and efficient city-wide mobility systems that support athletes, spectators and the broader community.

How does WSP approach venue, precinct and temporary infrastructure design for the Games?

WSP designs both temporary and permanent venues with a strong focus on local context, sustainability and legacy. This includes modular 'kit of parts' solutions for rapid deployment, use of in-house tools like Carb0nise to assess embodied carbon from early design stages, and extensive experience with complex, constrained sites. WSP collaborates across disciplines and with partner firms to deliver integrated structures, lighting, aquatic overlays and site upgrades tailored to each host city’s needs.
