Mark Naysmith

Mark Naysmith is a Statutory Director of several subsidiary companies that form part of WSP Global Inc, a Canadian listed professional services corporation, having joined the business in 1988.

He presently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer for the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa, responsible for 16,000 employees and an annual fee revenue of circa CAD $1.95bn.  Mark is a member of WSP’s Global Executive Team, Global Leadership Team and is Chair of the UK Advisory and Central European Executive Committees.  

Mark is responsible for setting and implementing strategic direction, encouraging technical innovation, operational efficiency and leadership, to ensure the best outcomes are achieved for shareholders, clients and staff. Mark has a passion for team working, early career development and client satisfaction.

He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Fellow of the ICE and CIHT, with a BEng Hons (1st) in Civil and Transportation Engineering.  In 2018 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering (Dr.Eng) by Edinburgh Napier University in recognition of the contribution he has made to the built and natural environment.   In 2014, Mark was awarded the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) - European Chief Executive of the Year Award.  Mark is a member of the FIDIC Global Leadership Forum Advisory Board, sits on the ACE Advisory Board as well as the BusinessLDN Advisory Board.

Chief Financial Officer, UK, Europe and Africa

Miles Barnard

Miles Barnard is Chief Financial Officer for WSP in the UK, Europe and Africa and is a member of the UK Advisory Board and Central European Executive Committee.

Miles is responsible for the financial management and governance of the regional businesses including reporting and planning which encompasses the setting and delivery of the long-term goals of the business. Miles continues to draw on his knowledge implementing continuous improvements to financial systems, processes and procurement as well as assessing and completing business acquisitions

With broad international experience across different sectors, Miles has led significant business restructuring, operational and financial system improvement projects throughout his career. Miles’ career started with Atkins plc and Sulzer AG, moving to Siemens AG as Finance and Commercial Director for the UK Building Technologies Division and after five years took on the role of Mergers & Acquisitions Manager. In 2009, Miles joined Mouchel Group as Finance & Commercial Director becoming Managing Director in 2016. WSP acquired Mouchel in October 2016, and in early 2017 Miles was appointed Chief Financial Officer for WSP in the UK.

Miles is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (ACMA) and holds a BA in Accounting and Finance.

Ciaran Thompson

Ciaran Thompson is the Commercial Director for the UK & EMEA region. He is a member of the UK Advisory Board and Central Europe Executive Committee.

His role covers all aspects of commercial risk management across the region, including work winning, project delivery and dispute resolution. In addition, he supports the implementation of WSP’s acquisition strategy across the region, engaging in the sourcing, securing and integration of acquisitions across the region – with a particular focus on commercial and operational matters. 

Ciaran is based in UK, travelling regularly across the region. Prior to joining WSP in 2010, he worked for a similar consultancy for 15 years initially delivering projects in the Infrastructure Design and Build sector in South East Asia and Australia, before moving into wider commercial and operational management roles, spanning a broad range of sectors, in Australia and UK. Since joining WSP, Ciaran’s roles have included Commercial Director for UK, Chief Operating Officer for UK and Managing Director for Louis Berger International (acquired businesses in India, Africa & Europe). 

Ciaran is a Chartered Civil Engineer.

Chief HR Officer, UK & EMEA

Caroline Parsons, FCIPD

Caroline Parsons is Chief HR Officer for WSP UK and EMEA. Caroline is a member of UK Executive Committee, UK Advisory Board, Central Europe Executive Committee and Global HR Leadership Team.

She also advises the Middle East and Africa Executive Committees on People & Culture. As Chief HR Officer Caroline is responsible for leading the People & Culture pillar across WSP UK, Central Europe, Middle East & Africa. 

Background, experience, and specialisms?
Caroline started her HR career in the UK in heavy manufacturing and construction. She then moved to engineering professional services. Caroline spent half of her career to date working in the Middle East supporting the growth of our operations across the GCC and Africa. She has also worked in support of our operations in India and on numerous WSP Global People projects. She is now located in Spain allowing her to support the UK and Central Europe regions more directly. 

Caroline’s specialism rests in people and culture and her roles have always held a strong HR focus. In addition, Caroline held the role of Shared Services Director for the Middle East region for 7 years. In this role she focused on building a stronger connection amongst support services teams and influencing the end to end employee experience design. This was achieved whilst maintaining and improving a competitive corporate cost structure. Caroline developed and led strategic offshoring of HR and other shared services to our WSP India operations. Caroline also led the People pillar for the global offshoring and outsourcing of WSP Finance functions. 

Caroline is naturally curious, creative and action orientated. This means she seeks to understand the business and key issues through listening to feedback and observing patterns. This enables her to swiftly assimilate, create strategy and act on solutions when they are most needed.  

Caroline is passionate about creating positive workplaces for all, she works to ensure HR professionals and the organisation overall designs fit for purpose support tools that focus on empowering managers and employees alike. Aligned to her passion for positive workplace design Caroline is the Global Project Leader for the WSP Listens employee engagement survey which gathers the voices of over 55,000 people in each feedback round. In her WSP tenure Caroline has been recognised as HR Leader of the Year by Best Workplaces Middle East. She is proud that the HR teams she works with have also been recognised in multiple awards categories including L&D, Health & Wellbeing, Diversity and overall HR Team of the Year on more than one occasion.  

As a thought leader dedicated to the HR profession Caroline is an active member of the CIPD Guild of Chief HR Officers in the UK. She regularly sits on professional and industry panels concerning the topics of people practices, diversity and development. She has featured in various CIPD, Consultancy and WSP podcasts and conferences throughout her HR career. 

Education
Educated in the UK Caroline holds a BA (Hons) in Human Resource Management and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD) 

In addition, Caroline is Certified in Advanced UK Employment Law (CIPD) and is a trained Coach and accredited facilitator for the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.

Mathieu du Plooy is Chief Operating Officer, UK & South Africa and has been with the business since 1999.

Mathieu is Chief Operating Officer, UK & South Africa and also a member of the UK Executive Committee.   

Mathieu is passionate about building strong sustainable people business and has experience is delivering these businesses within a multinational business and an Emerging Market environment. Mathieu has delivered projects both in South Africa and extensively up into Africa, together with projects internationally, specifically in the ME and Asia. Mathieu’s background is originally Mechanical, with a specialization in commercial and industrial refrigeration. Mathieu continues to fulfil roles as Key Client Account Director within the organisation. 

Mathieu holds a Bachelor Degree in Technology: Mechanical Engineering from the Cape Peninsula University of Cape Town, an MBA from the UCT Gradual School of Business (GSB) and a MCom in Financial Management from University of Cape Town. Mathieu is professionally registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a Professional Engineering Technologist, the South African Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the South African Institute of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Mathieu is also a member of the Institute of Professional Engineering Technologists.

Managing Director, UK Planning & Advisory

Paul Reilly

Paul Reilly is the Executive Managing Director of WSP UK’s Planning, Advisory and Local Government business, working across Transport, Environmental & Planning, with over 2260 staff.

He is responsible for setting and implementing technical innovation; operational efficiency; and excellence in delivery.   Paul is also part of the UK Executive Committee as well as the UK Senior Leadership Team.

In 1999 he became Managing Director of AssetCo, a start-up  vehicle and medical engineering outsourcing business, overseeing its revenue growth to £185m.  Paul graduated from Harvard. 
Business School’s flagship Advanced Management Programme in 2004.  He joined PBA in 2006 and was elected Managing Partner  in 2010.  In 2021 he became Managing Director at Stantec UK Infrastructure and Buildings (formerly Peter Brett Associates).   

Paul graduated in Natural Sciences from University of Cambridge in 1987.  He qualified as an accountant and worked in banking before joining AT&T Capital in 1991, helping build its European finance arm.    

Paul was appointed chair of The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) for 2020.

Rachel Skinner

UK Director of Government Relations & Corporate Responsibility

Rachel Skinner CBE

Rachel Skinner is UK Director of Government Relations & Corporate Responsibility. She is a member of both the UK Leadership Team and the UK Advisory Board.

Prior to her current role, she led WSP’s 600-strong UK transport planning and advisory team for several years. 

In 2020-21, Rachel served as the 156th President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and she is a Patron of Women in Transport (a not-for-profit), having been one of its founding board members since 2005.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a chartered engineer and a chartered transport planner. She was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Leeds for services to transport, engineering and industry diversity and is an honorary fellow of the Society for the Environment.

Rachel was awarded a CBE for services to infrastructure in the 2022 New Year Honours list.

At present, Rachel chairs the Infrastructure Carbon workstream of the Infrastructure Client Group (ICG), the ICE’s Decarbonisation Advisory Board and the UK Department for Transport Taskforce that is focused on employment and skills. She also served two years as an Infrastructure Commissioner for Scotland from late 2018. 

In 2016, Rachel was listed as one of The Telegraph’s inaugural UK Top 50 Influential Women in Engineering; in 2017 she was named the Most Distinguished Winner and Best Woman Civil Engineer at the Women in Civil Engineering Awards, and in 2019 she was confirmed by the Financial Times as one of the UK’s Top 100 Women in Engineering.

Rachel has authored, scripted and hosted publications and films on topics including “Shaping Zero” about climate action for infrastructure, “Making Better Places” on place-making and future mobility, and before that about digital technology and its potential for infrastructure, industry innovation and collaboration. She is regularly invited to give keynote conference presentations and to chair international and national industry events.

Kamran Moazami

Kamran Moazami is Executive Managing Director of WSP UK’s Property & Buildings business and is a member of both the UK Advisory Board and the UK Executive Leadership Team.

Kamran has over 40 years of international experience in the USA, Middle East, China, and the UK. Kamran is responsible for the overall performance of this multidisciplinary SBU, setting business budget, strategic goals technical excellence, innovation and identifying areas of future growth. 

Kamran opened the London office in 1989 and together with other directors has created one of the most successful and dynamic consultancy services in the UK responsible for iconic projects including The Shard, 22 Bishopsgate, and One Blackfriars. Kamran has been responsible for the design to completion of over 30 million square foot of building projects across the globe, many with innovative engineering solutions. He has authored and co-authored several engineering articles and was the winner of the 2013 IABSE Milne Medal.  

Kamran received his BSCE and MSCE from Columbia University New York and gained his professional engineering license in New York. He is a Fellow of both the American Society of Civil Engineering and The Institution of Structural Engineers.

Charlie Hodgson is the Executive Managing Director and is a member of both the UK Executive Committee and the UK Strategic Leadership Team.

He joined WSP in November 2020 and is responsible for the operation and financial performance of the five key disciplines in his area of the business, setting and implementing business strategy, operational efficiency and people leadership, all to ensure the best outcomes are achieved for clients and 2,700 staff members.

Charlie has over 15 years’ experience of leading large transportation projects, both in the UK and internationally. Prior to joining WSP, Charlie spent 9 years working for a large passenger transportation provider where he was Chairman of their Nordic and German businesses and Managing Director of Rail Development. He led the rail strategy and business development functions and held Board positions in 10 operating subsidiaries.  

Earlier in his career Charlie spent 5 years working in strategic consulting for a “big-4” accounting firm.  He brings strategic advisory skills from high profile client facing roles.

Charlie is committed to driving excellence in our client consultancy and is passionate about recruiting and developing new talent while supporting our commitment to diversity and inclusion. 

Charlie started his career is an Economist working in the UK Civil Service and holds an Economics degree from Manchester University.

Mark has spent the majority of his career delivering land and environmental planning and consents for major infrastructure projects in the rail, energy, highways and water sectors and is focused on strategic direction and ensuring technical excellence in his area of the business.

Since entering the consultancy world Mark has been involved in establishing, leading and motivating professional consultancy, design and management teams to deliver great outcomes for a diverse range of clients (including HS2, Highways England, Scottish Power, Network Rail, Thames Water, Marlow Foods, GMPTE) and development opportunities for our people. He is committed to driving excellence in our client consultancy and is passionate about recruiting and developing new talent.  Mark supports this by chairing WSPs Professional Growth Network for early career professionals, supporting growth and diversity in both graduate and apprentice recruitment. 

Mark is a Chartered IT Professional (CIHT) with a Higher Diploma and BSc in Applied Physics and Electronics from University College Galway. Mark also holds a Board position at the Confederation of British Industry - Energy and Climate Change.

Karen Sewell

Karen Sewell is the General Counsel for the UK & EMEA region of WSP.

Karen is a member of the UK Advisory Board, the Executive Committee in Central Europe and special advisor to all of the senior leadership teams across the EMEA region.   Her role also includes being Company Secretary for all WSP companies incorporated in England and Wales.

Karen is based in our London and Leeds offices, and her role incorporates oversight of all legal aspects of the business including strategic acquisition and integration planning, client appointments, claims and dispute management, corporate governance, regulatory and contractual risk, insurance and corporate affairs across the EMEA region.

Karen joined WSP in May 2016, and has extensive legal and commercial experience, gained over 20 years in private practice in the UK and the US.  Karen joined us from Addleshaw Goddard LLP where she was a partner in the corporate finance team. Prior to that, she trained with Linklaters LLP in London and New York and spent a number of years at US law firm Gibson Dunn LLP in London and New York.  Karen graduated from Oxford University in 1997 with a degree in Jurisprudence and obtained the LPC qualification from Nottingham Law School in 1998.

Paul Tremble

Paul Tremble is Chief Strategy Officer for WSP’s UK and ZA businesses, having held various roles since joining in 2003.

A member of the UK Advisory Board, he is responsible for developing, communicating, executing and sustaining the UK and ZA businesses strategic growth initiatives. 

As part of Paul’s role, he has responsibility for market analysis, market positioning, business development, bidding and proposals, key client management and client feedback for WSP’s work across all sectors in the UK.  Paul is actively involved in several high-profile multi-discipline projects including Ellison Institute of Transformative Medicine and the expansion and refurbishment of one of London’s most famous 5-star hotel.  

Paul is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with a 1st class BEng (Hons) degree in Building Services Engineering and has over 30 years’ experience of leading large mixed-use projects, both in the UK and internationally. Paul is also a Board member of ACE and is the Executive Sponsor for WSP’s apprenticeship programme.
